I spent the last few weeks bouncing between every major Halloween event I could get my hands on, from haunted lobbies to full-blown apocalyptic chaos. Some were forgettable, others kept me grinding long after the candy was gone.

That said, a lot of the “Halloween hype” this year came with a price tag. Most of the fun stuff was cosmetic or locked behind bundles — and while some modes were unique, not all were worth the grind. Still, a few games actually delivered that perfect mix of vibe, gameplay, and atmosphere.

1. Fortnite: Fortnitemares 2025

Vibe: Chaos and creativity collide.

Fortnite owned the season this year, by a hair. Between the zombie horde nights, pumpkin-launching mayhem, and crossover skins that actually made sense (looking at you, Ghost Rider + Venom combo), this was the perfect mix of spooky and fun. The limited-time rewards felt rewarding, the soundtrack slapped, and the visuals were lighthearted.

2. The Division 2: “Dark Hearts” Event

Vibe: Tactical terror in the ruins of DC.

This one crept up on me. The lighting, the ghostly NPCs, and the subtle environmental storytelling gave it a cinematic, end-of-the-world Halloween feel. It’s the kind of event you sink into with a headset on and the lights off…creepy, moody, and surprisingly immersive for a looter shooter.

3. Call of Duty: “The Haunting” Event

Vibe: Classic COD chaos with a supernatural twist.

COD’s Halloween drop brought back that nostalgic adrenaline with darker maps, eerie jump scares in their unique Halloween Slasher Deathmatch mode, and the best sound design of the season. It didn’t reinvent anything, but it executed hard. Again, one thing that I really enjoyed was the nostalgic characters from all the classics!
